CARLO PIROLA was the holder, until 2011 of the Chair for Instrumentation for Band with Direction and Composition for Woodwind Orchestra for the Milan “G. Verdi” Conservatory, where he started the Music Laboratory with aYouth Band and also a Symphonic Band.
He served as a Maestro collaborator at the Teatro della Scala and taught at the Civic School of Music inMilan from 1980 to 1995. He became winner of numerous national and international competitions for Band.The major part of the work for the organics of wind and percussion are published by the following Italian Publishing Houses: Animando, Belati, Boario, Dicorato, Edipan, Mulph, Primo Tema, Santabarbara, Setticlavio, Vidale, Wicky, from the Holland editions De Haske and Bronsheim, Emil Ruh(Switzerland) and P. Lafitan(France).
Carlo Pirola’s curriculum and band productions are included in three dictionaries: “Italian Band Music for woodwind groups” vol. II of Marino Anese, the “Neue Lexicon Blasmusikwesens” of W. Suppan – Publishing House Schulz-Friburgo (Germany) and “The Heritage Encyclopedia of Band Music” of W. H. Rehrig Integrity Press of Ohio (U.S.A). The Music of Carlo Pirola also appears under the pseudonim of Picarband and is performed in Europe, Asia, America and Australia. He has presided in many juries of different competitions of Provincial Regional, National ranking, and internationally in (Switzerland, Germany, France, Spain, Portugal, Belgium, Luxemburg, Holland, England, Korea) and holds update courses for Maestro Directors of Band in various Italian Regions, recently with A.N.B.I.M.A (National Association of Italian Bands) of Umbria, Friuli Venzia Giulia, and Piemonte) Since 2007 he participated in international courses of perfecting of
Spilimbergo (Udine) directing youth bands in the execution of didactic songs especially commissioned and composed for this training.
From 1999 to 2008 he took part in the Artistic Direction of the International Band competition “Flicorno d’oro” (Golden Flugelhorn) by Riva del Garda and is currently continuing his teaching activity for student directors of I.S.E.B (European Advanced Institute for Bands) of Mezzocorona
(Trento) with the artistic collaboration of Jan Cober, Josè Pasqual Vilaplana and Alex Schillings.
Since 2011 he is didactic collaborator of the ICM-Consonanza “Insiemme con la musica”(Togetherwith Music) School and has resumed to directing the group of Consonanza Musicale of Lissone which he founded in 1974, continuing the activity as an arranger, composer, and Director of the following youth training, which operate internally in the training course ICM: PlayTime, PlayPercussion, PlayTango, PlayFolk, and PlayBand. With this last one he realized musical representation for the 150th Celebration Event of the Unity of Italy, toghether with the alumni of E. Farè of Lissone middle school, continuing in 2012 with the musical-storic research of “Memorie Migranti” (Migrants’ Memories)
Holds Music Laboratories together with programs aimed at bringing young people closer to music and the world of musical instruments. In 2011 he initiated together with the collaborastors of Consonanza a didactic project, aimed at the alumni of the nearby primary school of “E. De Amicis” of S. Margherita. In 2013 he realized the musical opera of H. Hindemith “Costruiamo una Città)” (let’s build a City) with the participation of over 250 alumni of the school and the young performers of the Playband of I.C.M of Consonanza. Significant was the representation of the Youth Operas for Band, of Giuseppe Verdi, with unpublished pieces inserted in the biographical story on the occasion of the recurrence of the Verdi bi-centenial; while the didactic activity with the Primary Schools continued with the 2014 project which is named”Narration, emotion and music”
In these years CarloPirola has made available his experience as teacher Emeritus of the Milan Conservatory, collaborating with music schools and amature bandsmen groups, to encourage the artistic growth, social and cultural of “Fare la Musica Insieme” (Making music together)
